We are having our next meeting this Saturday, October 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the storefront at 26 2nd Ave (between 1st St. and 2nd St.). This Saturday we will have a special power point presentation on Bhagavad Gita called "A Bumpy Journey Toward Harmony with the Bhagavad-gita" presented by Vishaka.
Vishaka is a female disciple of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, Founder Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). In 1971 she traveled to India, where she met Srila Prabhupada, read his Bhagavad-gita As It Is and eventually became his student. As a photographer, she traveled with and photographed Srila Prabhupada and his students in India, Europe, and the United States. As a writer, she wrote numerous magazine articles and three books on the Bhagavad-gita. Visakha also assists her husband, Yadubara, in making documentary films. Torchlight Publishing’s Bhagavad-gita: A Photographic Essay (2010) written by Visakha won the Bronze Medal in the 2011 Independent Publisher’s Book Awards for the best Spiritual/Inspirational title.
Do not miss it! Please be on time. PLEASE BRING YOUR FRIENDS!
We will begin the first kirtan on time, at 5:30. There is no charge for attending our event. Donations are welcome, but not required. Please R.S.V.P., if possible--although it's not necessary.
At our last program, Atma led the first kirtan and gave class on verse 6 of chapter 5 of the Bhagavad Gita As It Is: "Merely renouncing all activities yet not engaging in the devotional service of the Lord cannot make one happy. But a thoughtful person engaged in devotional service can achieve the Supreme without delay." Ecstatic devotees from Czech Republic led a jolly and energetic kirtan after class. Rama Raya also sang a final kirtan. Matthew made a delicious vegetarian feast despite he could not attend program. Among the 19 of us who attended are: Atma, Subhie, Govind, Avi, Kirtan Ron, Barbara, Venu-gopal, Anup, Vishnujana, Prahlad, Rama Raya, Brahma Haridas, Nandalal, Caroline, Meaghan, Narayana, Pam and Aditi.
